Joe Barry created Panic Away in 2001 and has since gone on to publish it in 32 countries around the world. Thousands of people have used it and benefited greatly. The reason it originally began was to help Joe with this own panic attacks. He started to discover ways of stopping panics attacks when they came about and developed the concepts.
Over the years he has gone on to update the course many times as new breakthroughs have been made and he feels that it is capable of helping anybody who suffers from panic disorders. He has plenty of panic away real life testimonies who stand by his methods. They have gone on to completely stop their anxiety and panic attacks and started life again in a whole new and exciting way.
One of the first concepts that Barry developed was the 20 second countdown. What this entailed was a new approach to dealing with anxiety. When you first start to feel the onset of an attack you must tell the panic that it has 20 seconds for the attack to begin. Whatever the worst case scenario that your mind is telling you will happen must happen with 20 seconds. If it does not then it is just a threat.
This helps to set a boundary where you start to gain more control over the attacks. If it does not happen within the 20 second time frame then you gradually take away more and more power from the anxiety that has previously controlled you.
Barry recommends that you do not rush out the countdown and try and get it over with, but instead you take your time and feel in control as you do it. The count helps to also calm you so as you gradually count you take back the control. The more times this happens then the more you feel you are the one in control.
This is one of the simplest methods that he has developed but an incredibly powerful one. It will not change things overnight but along with his complete program it can free you of the anxiety and also put you on the road to overcoming it completely.
The key is to take it a step at a time. First you learn to take back some control and then as this happens more often the fear of the attacks go away and you can be free of them for good. I hope you get to feel this yourself if you suffer from panic attacks as it is an incredible feeling when you regain the confidence.
